Economic Development

   The Tifton area has a diverse industrial base of manufacturing, distribution, agriculture, and tourism.  As the agents for economic development in Tifton, the Tifton-Tift County Chamber of Commerce, Tift County Development Authority, and Downtown Development Authority are dedicated to providing a positive environment for existing businesses and businesses considering locating in Tifton, Georgia.  The advantages of locating in Tifton are numerous and include:

  • Strategically located at the intersection of Interstate 75, U.S. Highway 82, and U.S. Highway 319.

  • Location places the markets of Southeastern United States within hours and the entire East Coast only slightly longer.

  • Fifty percent of Georgia’s agriculture is located within fifty miles of Tifton.

    • Tifton has more PhDs engaged in agriculture research than any other community of its size in the Southeastern United States leading the way in development of new strains of grasses, crop-disease control, and watershed management.

    • Local officials are pursuing federal funding for the development of a Center of Excellence in Agriculture to be located in Tifton to co-locate the research efforts of the University of Georgia and the United States Department of Agriculture, Agriculture Research Service-Tifton.

  • Tifton is home of the Agriculture Innovation Center designed to incubate agriculture-based industries.

Tifton is blessed with several major educational institutions and one of the best public school systems in the state.

  •  Troy University’s Tifton Site is part of a global university with over 60 locations worldwide and nearly 30,000 students. As a regionally accredited university, Troy University and the Tifton Site services the surrounding area with high quality programs that consist of weeknight, weekend, and online classes, designed for the non-traditional student. Undergraduate and Graduate programs are available either onsite or via eCampus in a variety of professional programs.

  •  Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College has a long and successful history in Tifton providing a quality education to aspiring farmers, business leaders, and health professionals.

  • The University of Georgia has expanded its role and now, in addition to major provides undergraduate degrees in agriculture, as well as graduate and post graduate training in agriculture.

  •  Moultrie Technical College provides a variety of courses to teach and improve skills for employment.

  • As the local administrator for Georgia’s Quick Start Program, Moultrie Tech can provide customized, job-specific training for new or expanding companies.

  • Tift County was one of the first communities in Georgia to offer the Youth Apprenticeship Program and continues to be an active participant in this industry-driven and community-based educational system providing youth work experience in industry.

The Development Authorities of Tifton-Tift County structure incentive packages customized to the requirements of industrial prospects.  Incentives immediately available include:

  • 100% Freeport Status

  • Local financing if desired
